VE75 Day celebrations in Maldon

Maldon's VE75 Events

2020 will mark the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day.

The Government have already announced a national programme of events and here in Maldon, the Town Council will host a street party outside All Saints church within the shadow of the War Memorial. This event will take place on Bank Holiday Friday 8th May and will involve the closure of the High Street, from Market Hill to West Square. There will be food and entertainment from 1pm until when, following the ‘Battle’s Over’ broadcast, a procession will lead to a further party on Promenade Park. VIP status will be afforded to any veterans and those who remember VE Day the first time round.

PARTY IN THE PARK in Promenade Park

VJ75 (Victory in Japan) will then be marked with a special service at Maldon’s Methodist Church at 10.30am on Sunday, 16th August, conducted by a military chaplain attached to NATO. It should all be very fitting and will ensure that Maldon once again marks the victories that brought world conflict to an end.

To share your memories of VE and/or VJ Days, or if you have any questions about the celebrations, please contact Jane Coleman, the Town Clerk at Maldon Town Council, either by email: townclerk@maldontowncouncil.gov.uk or by telephone: 01621 857373.

OVER 70?

Please be sensible. Keep away from crowded situations. Do not go to the DIY store because you need some more compost or to see the latest offer in the middle isle of the overcrowded supermarket.

Keep your distance from others and stay away from crowds.

You may think you are armour plated but if you get ill you will probably need a precious hospital bed. That bed will then not be available for our children or grandchildren if they need emergency treatment. Think about it.

KEEP AWAY AND PROTECT OTHERS.
