Making Maldon Magical this Christmas

Maldon's High Street will come alive from 4pm on Saturday December 3 with a special community event featuring processions celebrating the Christmas light switch-on.

At 4.15pm the Churches' candle lit procession starts from St Marys proceeding up the High Street to All Saints Church.

At 4.45pm there will be Carols and a blessing outside the Moot Hall with young singers from All Saints Primary School and the brass section of Maldon Youth Orchestra.

At 5pm the Town’s Christmas Lights will be turned on from the Moot Hall balcony by the winner of the Town Mayor’s Christmas Card competition with the Town Mayor followed by the Winter Carnival Parade starting from West Square and proceeding down the High Street to Mill Road.

At 5.20pm the High Street is closed between West Square and Market Hill after the parade has passed the junction and the entertainment will begin on stage:
  • 5.30pm - Maldon Youth Orchestra start the event with some rousing band music
  • 5.55pm - St Mary’s Church choir with traditional Christmas carols
  • 6.15pm - Tequila Swing will bring a change of style and pace
  • 6.40pm - The Big Sing Community choir will end the evening on a high!

Throughout the proceedings on the High Street Charity organisations will have stalls on the High Street with seasonal gifts and games and there will be performances by All Saints Hand-bell ringers & Dark Horse Morris dancers.

The events end at 7pm with the road re-opens about 7.30pm. All event times are approximate.
