Click for more details
Inspired by the true story of the Fisherman’s Friends, an all-male a capella folk singing group from Port Isaac in Cornwall who in the noughties, after being discovered by the radio DJ Johnnie Walker, became an unexpected hit for their authentic sea shanties.

A fast-living, cynical London music executive (Danny Mays) heads to a remote Cornish village on a stag weekend where he's pranked by his boss into trying to sign a group of shanty singing fishermen (led by James Purefoy). He becomes the ultimate 'fish out of water' as he struggles to gain the respect or enthusiasm of the unlikely boy band and their families (including Tuppence Middleton) who value friendship and community over fame and fortune. As he's drawn deeper into the traditional way of life he's forced to re-evaluate his own integrity and ultimately question what success really means.

Eastern Angles Theatre Company presents Food Wars
Maldon Town Hall, Market Hill, Maldon   CM9 4RL
Saturday 5th October 2019 7.30pm
Click for more details
Two plays in one night explore the battle for bread that took place on your doorstep.

Featuring two halves of story, it is a collaboration between Eastern Angles and New Heritage Solutions, which previously brought you Somewhere In England.

Oh, What A Lovely Food War is a series of comic music hall sketches on the first introduction of food rationing in England as a result of the U-Boat War. Discover how you would have coped with the Great British Bake Off during First World War, with the perils of rationing and potato flour!

Saving Our Bacon takes up the story in the Second World War, when pigs in blankets were something different and the black market was just around the corner. Real life memories have inspired the story of the often-forgotten struggles of the Home Front.

Food Wars tours to Maldon Town Hall on Saturday 5th October at 7.30pm.
